Financial Aid Awards Letter Information

The Student Financial Assistance Office sends out "awards letters" to all students that submitted a FAFSA by the March 1 priority deadline for the upcoming school year at the end of March. Those students that did not complete a FAFSA by the priority deadline will be processed in turn. If any student wishes to accept or decline this assistance, it is necessary that they log onto our on-line student self service system, Joe'SS.

The amount of financial aid that has been awarded to a student may be revised if they are awarded additional financial assistance (scholarships, fellowships etc.) at a later date. The student will be notified if such revisions are made.

To receive and/or maintain your award, the student will need to meet satisfactory academic progress requirements and complete any documents required by the Student Financial Assistance Office.

Financial aid accepted by students will apply towards fees, room/board, and other debts owed to the University.  If the total of the aid applied exceeds the amount of charges owed to the University, the excess funds will be sent by the Cashier's office to the students local address (or directly deposited into their bank account) each semester. If a Parent PLUS loan has resulted in an overpayment the refund will be sent directly to the parent. If all requirements, including full-time registration, promissory notes and counseling, are fulfilled by the student the funds will be paid out to the students account 10 days before classes begin.

Student Financial Aid Policies

  1. In order for a student to receive campus based funds (Federal Perkins Loans, Federal Work Study, Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant), University Loans and FFEL Stafford Loans  the student must be enrolled at least half-time (undergraduate 6 hours, or graduate 4 hours per semester) during the academic year or at least 3 hours during the summer session.
  2. Federal Pell Grant, ACG and SMART Grant Awards are initially based upon full-time enrollment status (12 or more hours). The Student Financial Assistance Office will review all Federal Pell Grant, ACG and SMART Grant awards at the end of the fourth week of class.
  3. Federal regulations require financial assistance recipients to make satisfactory academic progress towards their degree in order to continue to receive federal financial assistance (ie: Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, Academic Competitiveness Grant, SMART Grant, Federal Perkins Loans, Federal Work Study, and FFEL Stafford Student Loans). Students who enroll full-time (12 or more hours undergraduate or 9 or more hours graduate per semester) and do not complete 75% of the attempted courses and full-time enrollment during the academic year will jeopardize current and future federal financial aid eligibility. Students withdrawing before completing 60% of a term for which aid has been received may have to repay aid that was awarded for that term. Federal regulations also require federal assistance recipients to secure the degree they are seeking in 150% of their attempted hours needed for that degree.
